The Catastrophic History Of You And Me - Jess Rothenberg

Dying of a broken heart is just the beginning.... Welcome to forever.

Book Synopsis: Brie's life ends at sixteen: Her boyfriend tells her he doesn't love her, and the news breaks her heart—literally. But now that she's D&G (dead and gone), Brie is about to discover that love is way more complicated than she ever imagined. Back in Half Moon Bay, her family has begun to unravel. Her best friend has been keeping a secret about Jacob, the boy she loved and lost—and the truth behind his shattering betrayal. And then there's Patrick, Brie's mysterious new guide and resident Lost Soul . . . who just might hold the key to her forever after. With Patrick's help, Brie will have to pass through the five stages of grief before she's ready to move on. But how do you begin again, when your heart is still in pieces?

Such a wonderful premise and a great start to February!

This is Jess Rothenberg's debut YA novel and you're in for a wild ride with this one. I can't wait to read more from this author and her books are already on my TBR List.

Brie (Aubrie) died of a broken heart and she's only 16. For some, that might sound a might cringe worthy, but it was written beautifully - I laughed, I wanted to cry at times with Brie, and I swooned over Patrick (Jacob who?)

Now that she is dead and gone, she must figure out how to move on into her forever after with the help of her spirit guide Patrick.

SPOILER ALERT: stop reading if you don't want to be shocked: My only caveat is that the whole best friend goes off with ex-boyfriend trope really annoyed me and I could see it coming from a mile away. Really hate when they do that, but it progressed the story.

Also, the plot was very obvious, if you do not like obvious plots then you probably should find something else to read, but you should give this book a chance and it might surprise you (that twist might just take you.)

Go and read this book, you won't be disappointed, especially if you love references and songs. Each title of a chapter features a snippet of song lyrics from a hit from the past.

I'm hoping that this book gets picked up for a movie or film remake, it deserves it! Even just a Netflix adaptation would do, it really hit all the right notes for me.

Rating: ★★★★★ 5/5 Stars!
