Pride & Prejudice - Jane Austen
The traditional favorite Jane Austen novel—her enduring story of pride and prejudice Book Synopsis: When Elizabeth Bennet meets Mr. Darcy she is repelled by his overbearing pride, and prejudice towards her family. But the Bennet girls are in need of financial security in the shape of husbands, so when Darcy's friend, the affable Mr. Bingley, forms an attachment to Jane, Darcy becomes increasingly hard to avoid. Polite society will be turned upside down in this witty drama of friendship, rivalry, and love—Jane Austen's classic romance novel.
Have you ever picked up a classic book and said, "Why yes, I am going to finish this book in one sitting."
For me, sitting down to read this novel has been extremely difficult. Ever since I watched the movie with the Keira Knightley adaptation when I was a kid, I promised myself that I would actually finish this book - and trust me, it's been quite the challenge.
To be blunt, I have about five copies of this book: ebook, Kindle, iBooks, hardcover, and I finished reading this book on my iPhone through a website called project gutenberg.
Why did this book take me so long to finish? Well, short answer would be the busyness of life, and the long answer would be, I just wasn't that interested.
Vacations, errands, traveling, and other activities have definitely been placed at a higher level of importance in my life - and although I still love to read, this book just wasn't my cup of tea... which might sound strange, but I just couldn't bring myself to read it when I was a kid, especially after watching the movie version a handful of times.
This book didn't bewitch me, I did find some lines to be laugh out loud funny, but I wanted the experience in which I could actually sit down, complete the book, and then sit down again to watch the movie. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to watch the BBC version with Colin Firth, but I'll get around to it one of these days.
My reading goal for next year on goodreads.com is to definitely pick up some more classic novels and actually finish them, and if there is a movie based on that book, I will watch it.
