A Whole New World (A Twisted Tale # 1) - Liz Braswell
Book Synopsis: Welcome to a new YA series that reimagines classic Disney stories in surprising new ways. Each book asks the question: What if one key moment from a familiar Disney film was changed? This dark and daring version of Aladdin twists the original story with the question: What if Jafar was the first one to summon the Genie? When Jafar steals the Genie’s lamp, he uses his first two wishes to become sultan and the most powerful sorcerer in the world. Agrabah lives in fear, waiting for his third and final wish.To stop the power-mad ruler, Aladdin and the deposed Princess Jasmine must unite the people of Agrabah in rebellion. But soon their fight for freedom threatens to tear the kingdom apart in a costly civil war. What happens next? A Street Rat becomes a leader. A princess becomes a revolutionary. And readers will never look at the story of Aladdin in the same way again.
This was just like watching the Disney movie Aladdin. It was truly a magical experience that made me reminisce about my childhood. What if Aladdin never found the genie and made those three wishes that would change his life? A revolution rises up as Princess Jasmine and Aladdin fall in love and team up to beat Jafar and free the genie of the lamp. I loved reading this book because I felt like I was a child again, day-dreaming of far off places like Agrabah, exploring the Cave of Wonders and narrowly escaping death.
Sit down and find yourself in the streets of Agrabah, stealing a loaf of bread with your good pal Al, and running around trying to escape the palace guards. A bold statement to be saying that readers will never look at the story of Aladdin in the same way again - honestly, I agree wholeheartedly with those words because I definitely have a newfound appreciation for Aladdin.
I can't wait to have my hands on the next twisted tale and read the sequel! Once Upon A Dream is mostly likely about Aurora in Sleeping Beauty and Old As Time is probably about Belle in Beauty and the Beast.
