The Book of Tomorrow - Cecilia Ahern

Book Synopsis: Born into the lap of luxury and comfortable in the here and now, spoiled, tempestuous Tamara Goodwin has never had to look to the future--until the abrupt death of her father leaves her and her mother a mountain of debt and forces them to move in with Tamara's peculiar aunt and uncle in a tiny countryside village. Tamara is lonely and bored, with a traveling library as her only diversion. There she finds a large leather-bound book with a gold clasp and padlock, but no author name or title. Intrigued, she pries open the lock, and what she finds takes her breath away.

Tamara sees entries written in her own handwriting, and dated for the following day. When the next day unfolds exactly as recorded, Tamara realizes she may have found a solution to her problems. But in her quest to find answers, Tamara soon learns that some pages are better left unturned and that, try as she may, she mustn't interfere with fate.

Wow. This book was insane. I'm still not sure if I mean it was insanely good, insanely bad, or just insane in general. Rosaleen is just crazy. Tamara is a bit of a spoiled princess. Jennifer is depressing. Arthur is a pushover. The nun is hilarious. What a roller coaster of emotions. When I finished reading it, I wasn't sure what exactly to think. Confused - definitely, horrified - on a scale of 1 to 10 - 11, and feeling accomplished - very much so!

It was a bit of mystery mixed with comedy and suspense. True, there was the death of her father which wasn't funny, suspenseful or mysterious, but the whole story will leave you scratching your head and wondering what in the world did I just read?

I'll admit, I wasn't expecting anything like this from Cecilia Ahern. I've read her other more known works such as Love, Rosie and P.S. I Love You. It wasn't really her style of writing, it was not what I expected at all. Finally, a book of hers that wasn't too depressing, predictable, or cheesy romantic cliches... fortunately there is no movie adaptation for this novel - some books are better left alone and not to be made into blockbuster movies.
