The Forbidden Wish - Jessica Khoury
Book Synopsis: She is the most powerful Jinni of all. He is a boy from the streets. Their love will shake the world...
When Aladdin discovers Zahra's jinni lamp, Zahra is thrust back into a world she hasn't seen in hundreds of years—a world where magic is forbidden and Zahra's very existence is illegal. She must disguise herself to stay alive, using ancient shape-shifting magic, until her new master has selected his three wishes.
But when the King of the Jinn offers Zahra a chance to be free of her lamp forever, she seizes the opportunity—only to discover she is falling in love with Aladdin. When saving herself means betraying him, Zahra must decide once and for all: is winning her freedom worth losing her heart?
As time unravels and her enemies close in, Zahra finds herself suspended between danger and desire in this dazzling retelling of Aladdin from acclaimed author Jessica Khoury.
A whole new world with a delightful twist. This book is a fairy-tale re-telling of Aladdin, except it's nothing like the Disney movie I grew up watching. No princess Jasmine, flying carpet, talking parrot, and pet monkey. Instead of those familiar characters, we meet a powerful jinni named Zahra and Aladdin - a thief.
An adventure unfolds as Zahra and Aladdin wish their way into the palace and shake things up for a chance at revenge. Zahra never planned on falling in love with Aladdin, but when she is offered freedom from the King of the Jinn, she is torn - freedom or love?
I loved this story, it was beautifully written and made me add a whole bunch of fairy-tale re-tellings onto my Goodreads to-be-read list. It has everything: love, action, secrets, and magic. If you could have three wishes from an all powerful jinni, what would you wish for?
Three wishes could change everything for Aladdin, but all magic comes at a price... is he willing to pay?
