The Last Boy and Girl in the World - Siobhan Vivian

Book Synopsis: What if your town was sliding underwater and everyone was ordered to pack up and leave? How would you and your friends spend your last days together?

While the adults plan for the future, box up their possessions, and find new places to live, Keeley Hewitt and her friends decide to go out with a bang. There are parties in abandoned houses. Canoe races down Main Street. The goal is to make the most of every minute they still have together.

And for Keeley, that means taking one last shot at the boy she’s loved forever.

There’s a weird sort of bravery that comes from knowing there’s nothing left to lose. You might do things you normally wouldn’t. Or say things you shouldn’t. The reward almost always outweighs the risk.

Almost.

It’s the end of Aberdeen, but the beginning of Keeley’s first love story. It just might not turn out the way she thought. Because it’s not always clear what’s worth fighting for and what you should let become a memory.

I'm still on a Siobhan Vivian reading kick, where I have personally challenged myself to read all of her books. So far, I've read and reviewed Same Difference, Not That Kind of Girl, Burn for Burn, and now this book. Soon to come is a review for The List, which I read earlier this year.

Can I be honest? I hated this book. Unfortunately, this book was a huge let-down for me, and did not live up to the hype. The dust jacket cover was pretty, and that's where it ends for me with this book. Although I did read the whole book from cover to cover, I was greatly disappointed. Never have I ever wanted to slap some sense into the main character.

Keeley Hewitt was a one-dimensional, flat character, with a slight attitude. She didn't do much except make her whole life a joke and throw herself at Jesse Ford. He was another character that I didn't like and was waiting for him to drown or leave town. Yes, kind of harsh, but seriously I just couldn't deal with the immaturity of it all.

The book was so predictable and a bit dragging. I wanted to speed up the flood and get to the real meat of the book, I waited and waited and it didn't happen until the end.

My recommendation? Skip this book, it was not worth my time. I guess that I can't trust all the hype. Ugh! There is nothing more unsatisfying that finishing a book that I did not enjoy at all.

Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ (One star for the pretty cover, but I was really hoping for so much more. Sorry Siobhan Vivian, this wasn't the book for me.)
