Tell Me Three Things - Julie Buxbaum

Book Synopsis: Everything about Jessie is wrong. At least, that’s what it feels like during her first week of junior year at her new ultra-intimidating prep school in Los Angeles. Just when she’s thinking about hightailing it back to Chicago, she gets an email from a person calling themselves Somebody/Nobody (SN for short), offering to help her navigate the wilds of Wood Valley High School. Is it an elaborate hoax? Or can she rely on SN for some much-needed help?

It’s been barely two years since her mother’s death, and because her father eloped with a woman he met online, Jessie has been forced to move across the country to live with her stepmonster and her pretentious teenage son.

In a leap of faith—or an act of complete desperation—Jessie begins to rely on SN, and SN quickly becomes her lifeline and closest ally. Jessie can’t help wanting to meet SN in person. But are some mysteries better left unsolved?

Julie Buxbaum mixes comedy and tragedy, love and loss, pain and elation, in her debut YA novel filled with characters who will come to feel like friends.

1. Beautifully written.

2. Hilarious.

3. CUTE.

Those are my tell me three things about this book.

It was so good, truly amazing! Easily it became one of my favorite reads this year. And in honor of Father's Day yesterday, I took a one-day hiatus and spent the day with my family at the beach. The reason that I choose this book for Father's Day is because Jessie has an awesome father who definitely needs some recognition.

There was such a wonderful friendship between Jessie and Somebody/Nobody (SN) that grew from mystery into love.

If I got an email like Jessie did from SN, I would definitely question it, but I'm glad Jessie is not like me and took a chance. Moving to a new high school is tough, leaving your old friends behind in another state, to suddenly being all alone in a new school where you are the new student trying to adjust and fit in.

Jessie had it tough, but she didn't realize that her father wanted her to be just as happy as he was. Her mother died, she moved into a new state and a new lifestyle, her stepbrother was a bit of jerk, and mean girls seemed to target her. However, life was pretty blissful for Jessie too. Getting her first new job at the book store, moving into a nice mansion, having a new brother who looked out for her, grabbing the attention of two of the hottest guys in school.

She was such a strong character, and I enjoyed the developments that took place. This was the first novel that I've ever read from Julie Buxbaum and I can't wait to check out her other books.

This book will have you saying, why wasn't my high school experience more like Jessie's? Or why isn't Ethan real? Anyway, you'll enjoy the adorable exchanges between Jessie and SN in their email correspondence.

Have fun guessing who SN is, and I'm positive that you'll love this book.
